Council, set up a
partnership in 2003.

Plymouth.
Plymouth and District Coarse Angling Club has financed the £80.000 building
project at Filham Park with the help of the Environment Agency, Living
Spaces, and Peoples Places. The Environment Agency’s contribution was funded
with money from the national rod licence scheme. A grant has also been given
by Living Spaces, which is funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
and managed by Groundwork. Further funding has been obtained from Peoples
Places.
John West (while holding the office of Honorary Treasurer of
Plymouth and District Coarse Angling Club), a resident of Ivybridge and the
Environment
Agency
first approached Ivybridge Town Council in 2003 with the
idea of Plymouth and District Coarse Angling Club financing the building of
lake at Filham Park. The lake was already part of Ivybridge Town Councils
Master plan for Filham all that was needed was the money
Lesley Newport from the Environment Agency said: "This lake will be an
excellent facility for all the community, and we hope will encourage many
new anglers to take up the sport and learn more about their natural
environment. It is unusual for new public lakes to be created these days,
and it is a credit to all the partners involved that this has come about."
Lesley Hughes responded on behalf of Ivybridge Town Council by welcoming the
investment by Plymouth and District Coarse Angling Club and the Environment
Agency in Filham Park and added "This has been an excellent example of
partnership working and the town will have a superb facility to enjoy. The
design of the lake, which was part of the Filham Park Master plan developed
by Scott Wilson, will ensure that it will soon look part of the natural
environment, attracting wildlife to the area".
Although the lake is now open Plymouth and Districts Coarse Angling Club’s
Job is far from finished. As custodians of the facility, the lake still has
s few things that need completing; Alan Rose (Development Officer for
Plymouth and Districts Coarse Angling Club) who secured all of the funding
for the main development is still trying to secure funding for the tarmacing
of the paths around the lake and of course, fish need to be stocked.
The stocking of the lake started with the first introduction of fish in
December 2005 the Plymouth and Districts Coarse Angling Club has a stocking
plan developed by Ellis Trinder (Fish & Environmental officer for Plymouth
and Districts Coarse Angling Club). it is expected to take up to four years
and up to £20,000 to fully stock the lake with fish.
